Short Take: EFF awards "free software" creators

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has given Pioneer Awards to Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system, and Richard Stallman, creator of the GNU development software tools. The ceremony took place at the Computers, Freedom, and Privacy Conference in Austin, Texas. The GNU and Linux "free software" development model was the inspiration for Netscape Communications' recent decision to release the source code of its Communicator suite.
