Short Take: Digital TV to be broadcast more over satellite, study says

More North American homes will receive digital television from direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operators than over cable networks by 2003, according to a new study by research firm Cahners In-Stat Group. Cahners expects the worldwide DBS market, which currently totals about 7 million customers, to triple within two years. Total cable customers, however, including those receiving analog signals, will increase to 330 million households by 2003, up from about 258 million worldwide today. China will be a strong growth market, the study showed.
