Short Take: Digital signs Alpha contracts with three firms

Digital Equipment signed multiyear contracts for providing servers and service worth $300 million to DirecTV, MCI, and Taiwanese chipmaker United Silicon. Digital Worldwide Services will provide each company with 64-bit AlphaServer computers as well as network and systems integration and support and maintenance services. The servers will be used in broadcasting, communications, financial, and manufacturing systems. Digital's agreements with DirecTV and MCI are extensions of existing contracts.
