Short Take: Credit would boost tech donations to schools

Sens. Spencer Abraham (R-Michigan) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) introduced the New Millennium Classroom Act to increase technology donations to schools by expanding tax credits. Under the bill, companies would get a tax credit equal to 30 percent of the retail value of second-hand computers; they also would get a credit for up to half the retail worth for donating to schools within designated empowerment zones, enterprise zones, and Indian reservations. The Information Technology Industry Council has endorsed the legislation.
