Short Take: Compaq offers new ethernet hubs

Compaq Computer announced two new 24-port Netelligent Fast Ethernet hubs with prices starting at under $100 per port. The two models are targeted at workgroups and small departments that need to upgrade from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet due to bandwidth constraints. The 2524 unmanaged hub (or "repeater") is available now for $2,387, while the 2624 managed model is available for $4,500, or $188 per port. The two offerings are stackable up to three units, allowing users to consolidate up to 72 connections. The manageable model includes Compaq's Netelligent network management software, a 32-bit Microsoft Windows application that integrates with Compaq's Insight Manager tool.
