Short Take: Cisco announces new security server, connection software

Cisco Systems announced a new security server called the Global Roaming Server that will allow mobile users to dial into a regional service-provider phone number via modem, rather than incurring expensive long-distance charges. This will allow service providers to use many access points to realize a "virtual" network. Available now is a version of Cisco Access Control Server for Microsoft Windows NT, a set of software for secure connections. The Global Roaming Server will be available in November for a list price of $52,500. The Access Control Server 2.0 for NT has a list price of $3,000.
