Short Take: Cisco adds policy capabilities

Cisco Systems announced a policy-based software initiative to tie its IOS software to network-based applications. Dubbed CiscoAssure, the tools will allow administrators to differentiate traffic by protocol type, automate policies, and include security, Quality of Service, and multiservice mechanisms so bandwidth can be utilized to its fullest. The new technology is currently available in the company's line of low-end routers, with plans to extend support throughout the product line.
