Short Take: Ciena unveils new gear for metropolitan networks

Optical networking equipment provider Ciena announced new gear intended for metropolitan networks, hoping to garner a chunk of a growing market. Ciena has targeted its revamped CoreDirector CI optical switching device for small central offices and metro areas. It will be released in limited availability in the fourth quarter of this year. Separately, the company launched a new set of optical network management software tools, called LightWorks On-Center, which allows service providers to provision connections and add services for customers.
