Short Take: Bill introduced to ban Net taxes

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) and Rep. Chris Cox (D-California) have introduced a bill to exempt Net access charges from state, local, sales, and usage taxes. The bill also calls for the Clinton administration to develop a comprehensive plan to address the taxation of electronic commerce. Such a plan is already being developed by Ira Magaziner, the administration's spokesman on e-commerce. Magaziner has pledged that no additional federal taxes will be applied to online transactions.
