Short Take: Ascend picks former FCC chairman to board

Networking firm Ascend Communications picked former FCC chairman Reed Hundt to replace Daniel Smith on its board of directors. Hundt presided over the FCC during the implementation of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Smith resigned as executive VP and general manager of Ascend's core systems division. Hassan Ahmed will replace Smith in the same capacity.
