Short take: Apple's Next acquisition a done deal

Apple Computer says it has completed its acquisition of Next Software, a $400 million deal announced in late December that stunned the industry as it brought back company cofounder Steve Jobs as a part-time adviser to chairman Gil Amelio. The deal provides Apple a base on which to build a high-powered operating system as well as highly touted Web development tools, yet the details of the company's next-generation Rhapsody OS are still being worked out.
