Short Take: Apple licenses Symantec's just-in-time compiler

Apple licensed the PowerPC processor version of Symantec's just-in-time compiler for Java, in an effort to speed up the speed of Apple's Java virtual machine (JVM). This summer, Apple will integrate the compiler into its Mac OS Runtime for Java, a move that will increase performance by 300 percent while making it comparable to JVMs for Intel-based PCs, according to Apple.
