Short Take: Apple announces ATM network software

Apple has announced the availability of its ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) Network Software for general licensing by network interface card manufacturers and application developers. Apple said it hopes to foster a new class of peripherals and third-party applications that will use the ATM network on the current Mac OS. The modular software is card-independent and operates on a standard ATM network.
