Short Take: AOL shuts off Russia

America Online has shut all Russian dial-up numbers, citing credit card abuse. AOL discovered the "potential fraudulent activity" in December and decided to close down all Russian access numbers and investigate, an AOL spokeswoman said. AOL does not have a service specifically catering to Russians, but about 2,000 people use the dial-up accounts to access AOL. "America Online is making every effort to reinstate service at the earliest possible opportunity," she said.
