AltaVista said it will launch a major advertising campaign in the late fall, aimed at building brand recognition of its search service. The search site, which recently was acquired by CMGI, is offering a number of new services, such as e-commerce hosting and free Internet service. AltaVista is prepared to spend between $50 million and $100 million on the campaign, a spokesman said. It comes as CNET (publisher of News.com) and other Internet companies also launch major ad campaigns.
