3Dfx plans to offer its Glide API to the open source community, as well as release hardware specifications for all of its currently shipping 3D hardware accelerators. The move is intended to boost the company's 3D technology in the software development community. "3Dfx has made a bold statement to the Linux community today by open sourcing their proprietary API Glide," Linus Torvalds, founder of the Linux operating system, said in a statement.
