3Com announced shipment of the asynchronous transfer mode-based component of its Ethernet-based CoreBuilder 9000 high-end switch recently. The 16-slot switching chassis starts at $40,800. Next-generation modules for the chassis using 3Com's ZipChip hardware set will be ready in the second quarter of next year, the company said, covering all Ethernet speeds, including gigabit rates.
