Short: NEC, Packard Bell joint venture starts up

NEC announced its joint-venture company with Packard Bell--Packard Bell NEC Japan K.K.-- which will begin operating tomorrow. Sales for the first six months are targeted at 6 billion yen, about $54 million. The new company will produce Packard Bell-brand desktop and notebook computers, including IBM-compatible machines, for customers in Japan.
