Short: Committee to deal with Web protocol

As reported by CNET, the Desktop Management Task Force (DMTF) announced a subcommittee to deal with issues related to the July Web-Based Enterprise Management initiative and resulting HyperMedia Management Schema. The committee will address three parts of the underlying common information model for a Web-based management protocol: rules, categories, and definitions (or naming). A DMTF chairman said the basic rules should be completed early next year, other portions will follow. Products based on the resulting protocol aren't expected to hit the streets until 1998. Proprietary implementations will dominate until then.
