Short: Camera on a chip

The single CMOS sensor will be the first commercially available camera on a chip. It was developed by Omnivision Technologies of San Jose, California, and Marshall Electronics will build the finished camera. It will include a series of lenses, housing, and cable systems to support the Omnivision sensor, and will feature built-in video output switching that will allow an unlimited amount of cameras to be connected in series with a single coax without external video switchers. A complete sensor board will cost $39 each for 500 pieces, and a complete camera with lens and housing will cost $79.
