SAN FRANCISCO--Macromedia, the creator of Shockwave, is now offering a free plug-in that lets users of its FreeHand graphics software integrate their artwork into Web pages.

Slated for delivery next month, the free plug-in is designed for use with Netscape Communications' Navigator 2.0.

Because FreeHand files are vector-based, they are smaller and can be more quickly downloaded and displayed, officials said.
