SGI revamps Unix workstations

SGI has launched a new entry-level Unix workstation. The purple-colored 02+workstation is available now in two configurations, the company said. One model will offer a 350MHz PMC-Sierra RM7000A RISC processor, with prices starting at $7,495, while the second will use a 400MHz R12000A MIPS chip and cost $14,495 and up. SGI said the new workstations will offer up to 47 percent more computing power and 32 percent better graphics performance over its predecessor, the O2 workstation.
