It's one thing to watch a Star Trek series or film and think about how it must feel to hurtle through space at lightspeed. It's another to actually do it.

That's exactly what you'll do at Movie Park, a theme park in Bottrop, Germany, that's known worldwide as the Hollywood of Germany, on the world's first ever Star Trek-themed roller coaster. OK, so maybe you won't be speeding through the universe at lightspeed. You'll definitely be careening through the air screaming at the top of your lungs, though.

The coaster, dubbed "Star Trek: Operation Enterprise," will be an officially licensed attraction via CBS and is expected to make its debut in 2017. (Disclosure: CBS is the parent company of CNET.) It'll be situated near the front entrance of the park with an "impressive silhouette," according to Movie Park's website.

If the coaster is anything like the rest of Movie Park's attractions, such as the themed Jimmy Neutron's Atomic Flyer roller coaster, the ride will likely pull imagery prominent from the upcoming Star Trek television series. If fans are super lucky, there could be audio tidbits and set pieces as well as a color scheme that matches familiar Star Trek conventions.

Though the attraction is still being built, the time-lapse video above at least will assure you things are progressing. The ride is timed to launch with the upcoming TV series in early 2017. Trekkies, thinking about a trip to Germany in the near future? It may very well be time to make it so.
