One reader writes: "While installing the new security update, i made the mistake of leaving the room. when i came back the screen was black (asleep). when i woke the machine, the software update window was incomplete, showing only the window titlebar (nothing in it), and the background pattern in the window itself, but no text, images, or anything else on the window. the cursor turned into the spinning ball whenever it moved over the software update window."
In order to test whether or not the patch was applied properly, and is working against the vulnerabilities, there is a test page at http://test.doit.wisc.edu/
You can also check in the /Library/Receipts folder for the file "SecUpd2004-06-07Pan.pkg."
If this file exists, it is likely that the update installed properly.
Mac OS X 10.3.3: special version required Some users are having trouble installing the update on Mac OS X 10.3.3 systems. Clive Bubley writers "I have just downloaded Security Update 06-07-2004 and tried to install it, but it does not appear to like 10.3.3! I have copies on three drives, and they all had the Red Exclamation mark on them in the installer."
Note that there is a special version of the 06-07-2004 security updater for Mac OS X 10.3.3. Also, for most readers, the updater will not appear in Software Update until Mac OS X 10.3.4 is installed.
