Seagate builds a foundation
Seagate Software's Network and Systems Management Group announces an underlying architecture for all of its management and storage products that will tie its diverse portfolio of tools together as the company focuses on Windows NT.
The Seagate Enterprise Architecture, based on the AppControl application management product acquired in a deal for Calypso software recently, will tie all of the company's storage management, systems management and network management products together in one framework.
"There's no clear model on how to solve that NT business issue," explained Robert Quillin, vice president of marketing for NSMG. Seagate is positioning its variety of application management, event correlation, and LAN (local area network) management products as the missing pieces that tie enterprise management and LAN management platforms together, he said.
A Windows NT version of NerveCenter, an event correlation tool that currently runs on top of Hewlett-Packard's OpenView and Sun Microsystems' Solstice Enterprise Manager, is due by the end of the year.
Version 2.5 of the Seagate Desktop Management Suite will be released in October with further Windows NT support. Version 3.0 is due by year's end with added software metering functionality.
By the end of June, a server management suite for Windows NT and Novell NetWare networks will debut with a SeaView Web-based management software. Seagate will also integrate products from its Storage Management Group.
