SAP said sales of CRM (customer relationship management) software represented $389 million out of $6.42 billion in total revenue last year, or 6 percent of 2001 revenue. Since introducing CRM products two years ago, SAP has sold them to more than 1,500 companies. Though business spending on software has fallen sharply during the last year, analysts say the market for CRM software will buck the trend. A recent research report from ABN AMRO concluded that the CRM market is expected to reach $3.36 billion next year, up nearly 26 percent from 2002. Companies selling CRM software promise to help businesses better exploit sales opportunities, fine-tune marketing campaigns, and improve customer service.
