Sanmina taps into Nortel connections

Sanmina-SCI, an electronics contract manufacturer, announced on Wednesday that it has entered a licensing agreement with Nortel Networks to design and manufacture printed circuit boards using Nortel's patented Channel Routing technology. Channel Routing allows designers to build denser wiring onto circuit boards, which improves signal routing and potentially reduces the number of layers required to connect components. The technology is used by Nortel designers and is expected to gain wide acceptance with other major component and subsystem manufacturers.

"Usually we license our own patented technologies to others," said George Dudnikov, the chief technology officer in Sanmina-SCI's PCB division. in a statement. "This is an opportunity for us to license someone else's innovation and provide products and services which utilize this licensed technology to all of our customers, in addition to Nortel Networks."
