Samsung Windows 8 Series 7 tablet out next year
Samsung will release an updated version of its Series 7 tablet running Windows 8 in the second half of next year.
Windows 8 tablets are just beyond the horizon and heading swiftly in our direction, according to Bloomberg.
A Samsung top bod told the news agency it'd bring out Windows 8 PCs next year. And the first will most probably be a modified version of the Samsung Series 7 tablet PC, the pricey slate that's due a touchscreen-friendly OS upgrade.
The modified Samsung Series 7 tablet will come out in the second half of 2012, Samsung's head of sales and marketing Uhm Kyu Ho said in an interview. This is good news indeed if you already own a Series 7, as Samsung will offer you an update to Windows 8, said Nam Seong Woo, head of Samsung's PC business. There's no word yet on when the update will be available though.
The Series 7, which runs Windows 7, is aimed at business bods, according to Woo. In our hands-on we weren't too impressed, seeing as the OS wasn't really built for the touchscreens seen on tablets -- plus the hardware costs around a grand. It does have a pretty meaty processor and plenty of RAM though.
Microsoft unveiled Windows 8 back at the end of September. It looks to unite tablet and desktop computers, which could really change things for Windows, if successful. And as we all know, that's a big 'if.' It follows the tile-based UI of Windows Phone -- apps from the mobile OS could even work on it, according to the boss of chip manufacturer Nvidia. Not only that, it could have its very own phone features. Is there any limit to its skills?
