Samsung teases us with video of 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab Android tablet

Samsung is making no secret of its plans to launch an 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab tablet at the CTIA show in Orlando next week. Having flagged up its intentions with a press invite to its Samsung Mobile Unpacked event at the show, it has now published a YouTube video to further heighten anticipation.

In truth, the video doesn't tell you much about the 8.9-inch Galaxy Tab, with a beardy hat-wearing man, a suity man and a slightly-too-smug-about-loving-her-life woman providing soundbites on the device's all-round awesomeness, followed by arty flashes of the Tab itself. Behold:

Other than that the device has cameras, there's not much else to be gleaned from the video. The new slate will slot neatly between the existing 7-inch Galaxy Tab, and the upcoming Galaxy Tab 10.1. We're assuming the 8.9-inch model's specs will be closer to those of the 10.1-inch version, with Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, and a dual-core 1GHz processor.

An 8.9-inch display means the Galaxy Tab 8.9, as we're guessing it may be called, will be going up against the LG Optimus Pad, which has a similar screen size, an Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and a 3D-capable display. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will opt to release both Wi-Fi and 3G models of its new device, though.

Separately, Samsung held a product event in the US last night, focused on all its products, not just smart phones and tablets. One intriguing product was a new Wi-Fi-enabled digital camera called the SH100, which will be able to connect to the Samsung Galaxy S smart phone, using it as a viewfinder.

Samsung also showed off a Wi-Fi-only Galaxy Tab tablet at the event, and talked up the 4-inch and 5-inch Galaxy Player devices that we saw at Mobile World Congress earlier this year.
