If you want both super-fast performance and top capacity for your computer, you can have it now, if you're willing to spend $1,499.99 (£1,156, AU $1,991, converted), which is the price of the latest 4TB 850 Evo solid-state drive (SSD) that Samsung announced today.

Samsung says the new capacity has a sequential write speed of up to 520MB/s and a read speed of up to 540MB/s, the same as that of previous capacities. It also has an endurance rating of 300TBW (terabytes written), which is the amount of data one can write to it before it becomes unreliable, double that of the 2TB version that came out last June.

The 850 Evo is Samsung's mainstream SSD and uses Samsung's 3D vertical flash memory technology, which is a more efficient way to allocate memory cells, the storage units inside an SSD. The memory cells are stacked up vertically up to 32 layers, as opposed to lying flat, allowing for significantly more cells in the same number of wafer bits. The drive also supports Samsung's TurboWrite, which helps accelerate write speed during data transfer by creating a high-performance write buffer in an SSD. On top of that, it also features RAPID mode, which uses part of the computer's system memory (RAM) as writing cache to further improve the performance.

The new 4TB Samsung SSD 850 Evo is available now and includes a five-year warranty.
