Samsung NEC taps Kodak for OLED tech

Eastman Kodak announced Wednesday that it is licensing its organic light-emitting diode display (OLED) technology to Samsung NEC Mobile Display. The royalty-bearing license is nonexclusive and extends to the joint venture's parent companies, Samsung and NEC. Samsung NEC plans to manufacture and sell cell phones using passive-matrix OLED displays. Terms of the agreement and the availability of cell phones using Samsung NEC's displays were not disclosed.

In related news, Samsung announced Tuesday another joint venture with start-up Vitex Systems to build thin, light OLED displays for the mobile device market. Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of liquid-crystal displays.
