Samsung Electronics will invest $2.1 billion in a liquid crystal display panel manufacturing plant in Tanjeong, South Korea, the company announced late last week.

The plant will begin operating in the first half of 2006 and will produce 32-inch, 40-inch and 46-inch panels for televisions. Samsung is one of the leading makers of LCDs. The new plant will be the second of its kind for Samsung--the company has a joint venture with Sony to manufacture LCDs in a plant near Tanjeong.
