Watch this: Phone News: Galaxy S3 arrives

Another week, another dose of PHONE NEWS. You waited a whole year for the sequel to the Samsung Galaxy S2 -- a phone so perfect Mel Gibson cries like a baby when he sees it.

You ran a patience marathon, hurdling every leaked Photoshop job and pole vaulting the wildest rumour and speculation. Until last week when Samsung finally unboxed the Galaxy S3 -- in a scene reminiscent of the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The S3 has a powerful quad-core chip, a gorgeous 4.8-inch screen and most important of all: it’s running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung has even chucked NFC in the box.

And just when you thought the news of the Samsung Galaxy S3 launch couldn’t get any better, Samsung’s gone and done it again -- the S3 will also be the official phone of the 2012 Olympic games!

Yay! Woo! But wait -- what does that actually mean? Well, to you and I, not a great deal. But if you happen to be an Olympic athlete competing in the London Games this summer then get ready to sing the happy happy joy joy song because you’ll be getting your very own S3 to play with -- you know in the two minutes per day when you’re not training, competing, refuelling or recuperating from training.

In other news Nokia has cooked up another mobile app to add to its Lumia line up of devices. Nokia City Lens uses augmented reality technology to show you what’s nearby so you don’t have to wander around unfamiliar streets trying to find somewhere to eat lunch.

Instead you stand in the middle of the street, holding up your expensive smart phone, looking lost or mad. What could possibly go wrong?

Like a lot of augmented reality apps making grand claims to show you all the great stuff you never knew existed in your very own town, Nokia City Lens seems a tad US centric -- so don’t expect your local greasy spoon cafe to be on its radar just yet.

The app has launched in beta -- Windows Phone owners should head over to Nokia Beta labs to download it. If you try it, let us know what you think of it in the comments below.

And finally, Blackberry still has a lingering hangover from the blowout party at the end of its annual Blackberry World conference last week. But it’s pushing through the pain -- announcing the launch of a new BlackBerry Curve smart phone.

The BlackBerry Curve 9320 is described by RIM as “a stylish new smartphone for socially-connected customers”. Socially-connected customers? Aw, with language like that they are really spoiling us!

The 9320 runs Blackberry 7.1 OS and looks -- well, like every other Qwerty-keyboard-packing BlackBerry on the planet.

Hit play on the video to check out all these stories in full. Do you dream of being an Olympic athlete just to get your hands on a free S3? Are you smitten with Nokia’s City Lens? And can you spot the difference between the BlackBerry Curve 9320 and all the other BlackBerrys ever made? Tell us what you think in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.
