Vodafone has postponed its Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S2.

A tipster pointed us towards Vodafone's forum, where the scarlet-hued network writes, "Unfortunately, Samsung have told us this morning that they are unable to make the update available to you as planned".

Thankfully, the delay isn't too severe. The plan apparently is to roll out the update via Samsung's Kies desktop software tomorrow, while the over-the-air update will be appearing on 17 April, which is Tuesday.

Updating over the air is far more convenient, but those who simply can't wait could try plugging their S2 into a PC and grappling with the horrible Kies software tomorrow. Fingers crossed those dates don't slip any further.

"I know a lot of you, like us, will be disappointed at this last-minute change of plan," Vodafone writes, promising that it will "continue to challenge Samsung to make this available to you as quickly as possible".

Vodafone had originally planned to get S2 owners updated today. It did warn at the time that the 12 April estimate was a "provisional date which could change".

While Three and O2 have already managed to squeeze Ice Cream Sandwich onto customers' S2 devices, anyone with a Vodafone-powered S2 can take solace in the fact that -- unbelievably -- SIM-free owners will be last to receive the precious update.

That's because Samsung's only going to start doling out updates to SIM-free mobiles "once we've got all of the operator pieces on board", according to a Samsung exec, who also admitted that communication with S2 owners could be better handled next time.

You only have to take a peek at our comments section to see that S2 owners are desperate for the update. It's no wonder -- Ice Cream Sandwich has been out in the wild since mid-November, and with the S2 proving an immensely popular smart phone, it's imperative that the company ensures updates arrive in a timely, well-communicated manner.

This particular update has been a pretty spectacular shambles. Hold tight, Vodafone customers, here's hoping you don't have long to wait now.
