Samsung Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab II officially confirmed... with photos

Samsung's new Galaxy S II smart phone and Galaxy Tab II tablet have been widely leaked ahead of Mobile World Congress, which takes place over the next few days. Now the devices, also known as the Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy Tab 2, have been officially confirmed. Well, at least there are official images showing the devices being waved about by accredited staff in front of the company's MWC stand, along with specs.

Samsung Hub bagged the first high-resolution shot of the Galaxy S II yesterday, and posted specs. It said the smart phone would be just 8.4mm thick, with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread software, and a svelte weight of 116g. The product shot shows a visual-heavy user interface that -- to our minds at least -- has a whiff of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 about it.

Samsung Hub followed up its earlier post this morning with official confirmation from Samsung of the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab II. Along with the specs above, it said the device will have a "Readers Hub, Social Hub, Games Hub [and] Music Hub", although we'd be surprised if the term 'Hub' is used, given Microsoft's use of it in its Windows Phone 7 operating system.

Samsung Hub's post contains photos of both devices being shown on the Samsung MWC stand, along with a few specs for the Galaxy Tab II. It will have a 10.1-inch display with a 1,280x800-pixel resolution, Android 3.0 Honeycomb software, an 8-megapixel camera, high-definition video recording and playback, and two built-in surround-sound speakers.

Separately, Engadget has reported that Samsung is working on a new 4-inch, WVGA display for smart phones that will be 3D-capable, as well as a new interface called Motion UI, which will let people pan, tilt and zoom within websites or services using the gyroscope in their smart phone. The report also hints at new developments from Samsung in the video-sharing and cloud-gaming arenas. 

Samsung's MWC press conference will take place tonight, when we should hear more on both of its devices, not to mention those intriguing-sounding Hubs. Stay tuned.
