Ringtone Roundup: Predicting the future

Crave's weekly look at the top-10 ringtones takes a stab at guessing which will be the next song to blow up.

Texas native Marin Perez had big culture shock when he moved to the Golden State. After first landing in Orange County, he then moved to San Francisco in 2005 to pursue a degree in journalism from San Francisco State University. He has worked at a few start-ups and dabbled in the print media as well. Marin watches far too much basketball, and he thinks Apple isn't really hip.

Each week, Crave tracks the most popular ringtones.

There hasn't been much change in Billboard's ringtone chart since last time. Chris Brown's "Poppin'" is still on top, and Buck Cherry's "Crazy B****" is still in the top three. Afroman's "Because I Got High" moved up three spots to number seven, and Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" dropped to the ninth spot. Other than that, there wasn't much movement in the top-10 chart.

Despite the lack of movement at the top of the chart, I'm going to put myself out on a limb and predict that Akon's "Don't Matter" will crack the top-10 ringtone list next week. In only its second week on the ringtone charts, the song jumped from 34 to 22. And considering that the song is currently number one on Billboard's Hot 100 this week, I don't think it's that much of a stretch.
