The Recording Industry Association of America has released its year-end 2000 statistics for anti-piracy activity, saying that actions against commercial Web sites climbed by more than 400 percent last year.
The group said it sent more than 7,400 copyright infringement notices to commercial sites offering downloads last year. That's up from about 1,600 the year before. The group also sent more than 2,500 infringement notices to sites that simply linked to pirated material on other sites. In addition, the organization cited legal action against MP3.com, MP3Board.com and Napster as cornerstones of its online anti-piracy activities.
