Hilary Rosen, who has headed the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) throughout its battles with Napster and other online music companies, is shifting her role at the organization. Cary Sherman, who was previously general counsel and senior vice president for the group, will inherit her position as president and take on more of a leadership role in the organization. Rosen will continue as the titular head of the RIAA as chairman and CEO.
Sherman has played a key strategic role alongside his legal duties throughout the last three years of legal battles, the group said. In recent months, he has offered a more public face in the group's fight against post-Napster file-swapping companies such as Kazaa and MusicCity.
