Revenue from DVD rentals up significantly

The Video Software Dealers Association announced Tuesday that consumer spending on DVD rentals so far this year has surpassed the amount spent for all of last year. Revenue from DVD rentals reached $1.47 billion as of July 21, an increase of $7 million, or 5 percent over last year. More than 459 million discs have been rented. Compared with the same period last year, revenues from rentals are up 115 percent and are averaging $50.8 million per week.
