A longtime Web publication for search engine professionals on Monday released a resource guide on the subject, illustrating momentum behind the growing industry. Web Digest for Marketers, a weekly newsletter for about 48,000 marketing specialists, published a free guide, called the "Essential Search Engine Marketing Resource Guide." It is a compilation of peer-reviewed Web sites and resources in search engine marketing, according to Larry Chase, its creator. The guide helps people find information on how to write a Web site that will surface higher in search engine results or how to buy placement in search engines, for example.
"It's a big field that's only getting bigger, and there's nothing out there that gives beginners or experts a handle on what's worth paying attention to," Chase said. In recent months, the industry sprouted a professional trade group, called SEMPO, or search engine marketing professionals organization.
