RealPlayer pulls in 200 million users

Streaming-media company RealNetworks says its RealPlayer, which lets people stream music and video files, has hit more than 200 million unique registered users worldwide, compared with 170 million in January. The Seattle-based company also said its RealPlayer GoldPass has reached more than 200,000 subscribers, up from 150,000 subscribers in January. The service, which was launched in August and costs $9.95 per month, offers audio and video content, software, and games. The company recently has been inking agreements to expand its offerings and audience. In January, RealNetworks scored a deal with the National Basketball Association to provide live Webcasts and audio feeds of NBA games. Three months later, the company struck a pact with Major League Baseball to audio-cast MLB games on the Web.
