The Snap Server 4400 comes with a total capacity of 720GB and reads and writes data faster than previous models, the San Jose, Calif.-based company said Tuesday. The $5,795 system is rack-mountable and 1.75 inches, or "1U," thick.
The system comes with software features that let administrators restore data "snapshots" taken earlier if they want to move files back to an earlier configuration.
Snap Appliance sells lower-end network-attached storage (NAS) products, essentially file servers that connect to regular computer networks. Quantum, which makes tape drives and cartridges, Snap in a $11.5 million deal last October.
In recent months, Snap has been focusing onproducts.
Earlier in Snap's history, Dell Computerthe Snap products under its own name, but Dell the deal after coming up with its own products.
