Single-player remains important to Remedy, Game Director Mikael Kasurinen and Creative Director Sam Lake said in a blog post titled "Remedy goes multiplayer." At the same time, the studio wants to go further.
"We want to challenge ourselves to find ways to also expand these elements to include cooperative multiplayer," they said. "We will always strive to be the best storytellers we possibly can, and we want these stories to be shared and elevated through players' cooperation. We believe that a multiplayer experience combined with Remedy's unique world-building provides an exceptional environment for that."
Remedy is working on "multiple future projects" that may include some form of multiplayer. The developer is using its own "Northlight" game engine and tools to help make this possible.
Additionally, Remedy is now hiring a lead network programmer, who will "be at the center of developing and shaping the multiplayer technology and features of Northlight."
Today's announcement is no real surprise, as Remedy previously talked about how its future games could include multiplayer.
Last month, Remedy confirmed it had at least two internal development teams. One is working on the campaign for CrossFire 2 and the other is developing the secretive project. "The other team is working on something that's pretty far off," Remedy Head of Communications Thomas Puha said. "It's in the conceptual stage."
Though it's early days yet, there is already a prototype and Remedy is shopping it around to publishers, though none have been named. Remedy is an independent developer. The Finnish studio worked most recently with Microsoft on the.
