Qualcomm Quick Charge powers your device faster

The rapid-charging technology is up to 40 percent faster than older smartphones and tablets.

Have you noticed that your new smartphone charges up quicker than your old one? You might want to thank Qualcomm and the Quick Charge 1.0 technology, which Qualcomm today announced is in more than 70 Snapdragon-based smartphones and tablets.

The rapid-charging technology can charge your phone up to 40 percent faster than previous generations, Qualcomm claims.

Where other models might take up to 4 hours to charge, a Quick Charge could accomplish the job in under 3 hours. As of today, there are more than 70 devices with support for Quick Charge 1.0, with more on the way.

The Quick Charge 1.0 technology is made possible through use of a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that works through the USB connector. From all outward appearances, the charging port looks the same as other phones or tablets.

Although the technology itself isn't brand-new, it's still good news, since it means that in the future, we'll see devices with large-capacity batteries charging much faster than before.

That's less time sitting on the floor in the airport or hanging around the wall charger in the coffee shop just waiting for your phone to charge.

Notable Android devices with Snapdragon processors include the HTC Droid DNA, Samsung Galaxy S 3, LG Nexus 4, and Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD.
