Qualcomm opens CDMA center in China

Qualcomm, a major San Diego-based wireless technology provider, opened a new research and development center for its CDMA (code division multiple access) technology in Beijing. The 43,000-square-foot facility will provide training and testing for CDMA equipment and technologies. China is a critical battleground for Qualcomm, which is seeking to have its technology used widely in that nation. Already popular in Korea and the United States, Qualcomm hopes Chinese government-backed carriers will support CDMA rather than competing technologies when they upgrade their networks in a few years for advanced wireless Internet services.
