PSP launch pushed back

Don't hold your breath for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) - Sony has officially put the Australian release date back by several more months.

Don't hold your breath for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) - Sony has officially put the Australian release date back by several more months.

Sony Computer Entertainment have long cited autumn of 2005 as the Australian release for the PSP, but that looks likely to pushed back to at least winter sometime. The PSP is being released in the US on March 24, with Sony's desire to ensure a good supply of units to American consumers reputedly the reason for the Australian delay. PSP has also been delayed in Europe.

A Sony spokesman said more details about the Australian release date would be made available at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo on May 18. The spokesman said the delayed launch date "is likely to be a matter of months, not weeks".

Sony similarly pushed back the Australian launch of the PlayStation 2 more than four years ago to make sure it had a good supply to the US.
