PS4 sales hit 2.1 million, Sony boasts
The new console has hit 2.1 million sales worldwide, according to Sony.
2.1 million PlayStation 4 consoles have been sold so far, Sony says.
Taking to its official blog to boast of the big number, Sony called the sales spike an "Impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry."
One million shoppers bought a PS4 in the console's first 24 hours on sale. The PS4 went on sale in the US on 15 November, but only reached the UK at the end of last week.
The PS4 has been hailed the UK's fastest-selling console ever, shifting 250,000 units in its first weekend sale, according to unofficial figures.
Those numbers are significantly higher than those of Microsoft's Xbox One, which is estimated to have been flogged 150,000 times during its first 48 hours on sale.
2.1 million consoles is nothing to be sniffed at, though it's worth mentioning that those numbers don't come close to matching to sales numbers enjoyed by Apple when it launches a new smart phone. The iPhone 5S and 5C generated a total of 9 million sales for Apple during their first weekend on sale.
