The PS2 -- now cheap as chips. Chips that cost AU$200, that is.

Those sneaky Sony Computer Entertainment folks have given gamers a mid-year present, lobbing AU$50 off the price of a PlayStation 2.

From this Thursday 1 June, a PS2 will now only set you back AU$199.95, down from AU$249.95. The price cut follows a similar drop in the US back in April.

AU$200 is a pretty sweet price for the console, considering it debuted at AU$750 more than five years ago. The PS2 is now only a little bit more expensive than some of its games, including the awesome Guitar Hero which will retail for AU$129.95.
