XML security company Forum Systems on Thursday said it has acquired privately held Kenai Systems for an undisclosed amount. Salt Lake City-based Forum is one of a handful of companies that sells specialized appliances, including a firewall, for securing applications that use XML and Web services protocols.

Kenai, based in Rocklin, Calif., has developed a line of software to automatically assess security vulnerabilities in applications during the design phase of development. Forum said it intends to add Kenai's tools to its security product line.
