Already going through "The Force Awakens" withdrawal? Instead of counting down the days to the next Star Wars film, you could try Disney XD's animated series "Star Wars Rebels" for a younger version of an old friend.
The show, which premiered in 2014, returns for a second season with the episode "A Princess on Lothal," which will feature none other than Princess Leia herself, according to Lucasfilm. In the US it airs January 20 at 9 p.m. ET on Disney XD. Fans in other countries, keep an eye on your local Disney XD website for viewing information.
Set three years before the open rebellion of "A New Hope," the episode reportedly introduces Princess Leia as a young leader on her way to becoming the strong-willed character we saw in the original trilogy.
The main "Rebels" story centers on a ragtag crew made up of cowboy Jedi Kanan (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.), ace pilot Hera (Vanessa Marshall), street-smart teenager Ezra (Taylor Gray), the "muscle" Zeb (Steven Blum), warrior Sabine (Tiya Sircar) and grumpy old astromech droid Chopper. They embark on adventures and become heroes with the power to ignite a rebellion.
Young Princess Leia is voiced in this episode by Julie Dolan, who also voiced the Rebel leader featured in Disney's Star Tours attraction.
Leia's appearance in "Star Wars Rebels" shows the origins of the seasoned general we later see her as in "The Force Awakens."
